The third week of Mac mini transition: trade pain for productivity

Hold on. What is that bright light behind my Mac mini? And what's with that Angel choir?

Well, now I'm better.

After three weeks with my new Mac mini, I finally feel that I am in a good place with him. I feel happy and productive with my new team. The transition was difficult and I'm still getting used to it, but a combination of impressive readers (PCs.) and some incredibly generous vendors (TechSmith, Boinx, Aquafadas, Parallels and others), the transition was much less painful that it could have been. In fact, applications have helped me to overcome my desire to return to my Windows 7 laptop to its place of prominence on my desktop perch. Honestly, without their help, it would have brought mini back to the Apple store and not-so-well I told them that they could only explain it and restoring the 800 + buckazoids to my account.

After dozens of eyerolls, nervous cough, clear throat, 120dB bloom and terrorist murmuring against the people of Cupertino nerd, I have come to my happy place Mac.

As one of my local friends Mac-adicto asked me a few days ago in the pool at the end of the season party, "I'm still thinking that also paid much for it?"

"That's a very interesting question", he said.

It must have been the Leinenkugel Oktoberfests speaking that you made me respond so abruptly and yet also so ambiguous. That or fumes Kraken rum emanating from another friend of mine who was lamenting pain-free the last weekend in the pool of the neighborhood which made me respond without thinking twice. Yes, that is what it was. I absolve you.

Now that I've had enough time and vitamins of the B group to reflect on the question, I think that your point was well made. The expression of his face more directly spoke to me his words did. His squint smirkish said: "do you get what you pay, no?"

"Yes, I suppose to do".

If I had to respond to it now, I would say, "No, I don't think I paid too much".

Apart from a few initial shock and distress, I would say that my Mac experience has been very good if you believe that I have been going and coming between love and hate the damn thing. The transition has not been easy because I needed to stay productive during the change of Windows 7 for Mac OS X.

Despite all the comments opposing, Windows 7 and Windows 8 are good operating systems. Linux is a desktop operating system. Indeed, I have bounced back and forth between Ubuntu (and other Linux variants) and Windows for years as my main desktop system.

But I'm happy with the Mac mini. It is a small system. Not experienced any delays in the launch of applications. Once fixed some permissions and reinstall the operating system, I had no major problems to report.

My third week with the mini has been comfortable and relaxed.

I've learned the way to Apple do things.

I've learned how:

Set the OSInstall permissionsReinstall applicationsUninstall new applicationsRebootAdd hardware and peripheralsGet IP printing to workDeal with images of dmg FinderEject after installationClose applicationsUse keyboard shortcutsGet Adobe Flash installed and Java installed workingGet and workingStop worrying and love pump

Apple is interesting for Windows and Linux users. It is in a way opposite to do things. It is very retract at the beginning. In addition, still I didn't find a way to see all my running applications. I can easily do it on Linux, Windows, iOS and Android, but not so easily in Mac OS X.

I guess it will come with time.

In the "old" days, when Mac users closed applications, they caught them with the mouse and putting them in the trash. I wondered, at first, if they were deleting their applications. They were not. It was a strange form of get something out of your desktop, I thought. Strange.

I have not tried to do it on my Mac because I am afraid that it will remove the application.

Now that the Mac operating system is based on UNIX, and an amalgam of following and FreeBSD, I don't know what to think about some of the actions of the days and Mac users last. I think it's okay that I can eject dmgs and external drives with the old standby, command-e. I used to love to use that combination when the 3.5-inch floppies ejecting from a Mac. The mechanical eject sound very cool - Zzzzizzzrrrizzz - click on. I loved it.

I am still looking for cool apps to my Mac mini.

Here are some on my list. Please tell me what are your Favorites in each category so I would be able to judge them.

Desktop publishingCover creationCartoon Strip creationeBook creationLogo designDrag- and -drop application creationAnimation (SouthPark-esque) artistic creation

It is the only thing that I can think of now. I have a bamboo tablet, pen and mouse that I have for a birthday gift a few years ago that I could never do work successfully on my Windows System. I'd like to try on the Mac, but I don't know which application would complement it best.

I'm going to have to rely on you to help me find great apps to my Mac.

In any case, I have enjoyed this week with my Mac and they have overcome most of the obstacles that made me get off at the beginning. Thanks especially to you. I appreciate your help, kindness and patience.

I am looking forward to my fourth and final weekly report next week on how going with my new mini. After this post, I will update on my progress, cool apps, my creations and something that I think you'll also.
