The web is filled with stories about the rise and fall of the powerful BlackBerry and I don't remember the accident. Instead I have been giving thought to one of the best phones of business once I've ever had - BlackBerry 8830 world phone.
The 8830 I bought years ago, the day of the launch of iPhone. I remember vividly innumerable stories about the massive lines at Apple stores and outlets AT & T. were only two places that get an iPhone then.
That day there was no line at the Verizon store. Only took me five minutes to enter the store with a new BlackBerry 8830 Verizon, properly activated.
At that time I was working in my previous career as a geophysicist and the 8830 was exactly what I needed. The most important feature for me was communication with my clients. That meant that the voice calls, email and messaging in that order.
The BlackBerry 8830 was fantastic for all three of these functions. It was great for voice calls even in areas of spotty signal, which were common at that time. He was able to get me the email needed in those same areas when other phones failed miserably.
It was a world phone, also, that came into play when I have travelled internationally. They handle both CDMA and GSM, a rarity at the time. I have purchased a Verizon SIM travel international and while caro, kept me in touch with all my client who was a real blessing.
The hardware of the 8830 was typical BlackBerry, especially the physical QWERTY keyboard. Scuplted keys facilitate e-mail writing with ease. The trackball just below the screen was a fantastic way to quickly move the cursor around the screen. As there was no touch screen on the BlackBerry at that time was significant.
The BlackBerry 8830 I served much and was the consummate business communication device. It was almost never contact with my clients, and that was very important.
The BlackBerry Storm that came later replaced my aging 8830 and as it ended up was not as functional to the needs of my work. While big storm touch screen had tactile feedback clicking and typing, operating system do not have crude oil compared with the new iPhone and Android phones.
While the 8830 was a fantastic communication device, not compared with touchscreen smartphones hitting the market. He competed with them for a time occupied best communications then while new smartphones that falling short in the departments of navigation and web application.
BlackBerry got into serious trouble when competing smartphones caught with consistent communication that blackberries had been famous. Competition ended thus making such as BlackBerry, and web/application functionality were also soon left BlackBerry in the dust. The rest, as they say, is history.
I still remember that BlackBerry 8830 with affection. Saved my bacon more times what can count with clients and did so simply and with style.
